Al’s Back (by )

Alaric has had a bad back for months - he thought he'd initially just strained it but it has gone on and on - from home he was reacting I thought it might be a slip disc as I had similar problems when I had one.

He finially went to the Drs with it again - this is after having been surviving for months on pain killers he was prescribed to help him sleep through the pain. hopefully it is just a slip disc or pulled muscle - they are sending him to physio but it may also be a type of arthritis so he is booked in for an x-ray.

Mean while he will continue wondering about in a back brace so he can actually drive etc... My main fear with this is that it will weaken his core muscles but in an effort to get his back better he has been doing core muscle exercises daily anyway. Fingers crossed as a house hold with to duff backs is not a good thing!

I don't know what all has been checked. But if the pain subsides/changes depending on whether he is vertical or laying horizontal (slightly inclined?). Check for stones. Kidney, gall, or otherwise. I tend to sleep at a 7^ angle at night because i would like to keep my gall bladder. If this is the issue, there is a home remedy using Epsom (magnesium) salts to flush the stones.

It's driving and sitting down that really hurt him - they have only just started testing for stuff. We'll look into the stones issue as we thought he had them before.

    Thankyou

You guys too? =(. I have been suffering from lower back pain since February and sitting down and driving has been worse for me too. I can't get comfortable at night either and cold makes it worse. I did see physio for a while and although it did help immediately it wasn't really a good long term solution as it's not practical to see them everyday! Spending time on the computer makes it worse as it involves sitting and I am not good with my posture eventhough I try. I now need some further investigation too. I hope it works out for you guys and it can be resolved. It's awful.

I mentioned "Renegade Rows" to Alaric as a very good core waist/lower back exercise. Because it works the whole area, it is less time and mental effort than doing several different exercises. Googling them you'll find many descriptions. The main thing is to keep strict and straight. need not bother with the push up part, just do the rows for the core. Don't even need to use weights, just raising one hand at a time rhythmically works the abdomen. It felt very awkward at first, but within a week it came naturally and helped me.

The main issue is we can't afford for both of us to be crippled with pain 🙁 Hope yours gets better especially with your news! Congrates.
