Our new consumer unit has two changeover switches, mounted just below it. They let us switch the ring main and the main lighting circuit between the mains feed from the consumer unit, or the IEC inlets at the bottom of the picture. So in the event of a power cut we can plug the generator in at the bottom, and switch the house over to auxiliary power.
